The Chapin Sisters came to World Cafe Live – Upstairs on Sunday July, 17. Abigail and Lily Chapin Sisters are the latest generation of the musical Chapin family. Daughters of Tom Chapin and nieces the late Harry Chapin.
The two sisters previously performed as a trio with half-sister Jessica Craven but are now performing as a duo.
I always like those performers who have distinctive voices and the Chapin Sisters certainly qualify in spades on this. They sound like no one else that I’ve heard.
Their claim to fame is the quality of their voices. Individually they have wonderful voices that would be worth listening to. When they combine their voices the effect is wonderful but it isn’t the usual sweet sound that other female duets. Their sound has a eerie dark quality that goes along with much of their material. Gothic comes to mind but not Goth. A prime example is the song ‘Let Me Go’
They accompany themselves on guitar which complements their singing perfectly.
Once again a great night of live music
